What Resolution Should You Look For When Choosing A Monitor For Your Computer

Your computer monitor is without a doubt the most used peripheral connected to the computer. It is what you will be staring at every time the computer is fired up and having the correct computer monitor will make the experience more enjoyable. While there are many choices available in computer monitors, sometimes it can be difficult to determine the resolution necessary for the type of images that will appear on the screen.
For the most part computer monitors are defined by the dot pitch, that is the space between pixels that make up the screen image. Whether it uses a cathode ray tube, like older televisions or a liquid crystal display the resolution is defined by the dot pitch with the most common being a .28mm.
Although the dot pitch of a monitor is an important part of the video display, other factors should also be considered when choosing a new display device. Two major contributing factors are the actual size of the monitor and the aspect ratio. With a CRT monitor, the size is measured diagonally, from the outermost corners of the monitor, including the case. With an LCD monitor, the screen is measured from the inside of the case.
The aspect ratio pertains to the difference between the height of the image compared to the viewable width. The most common television aspect ratio is 4 to3 while widescreen formatting is normally 13 to 9, or sometimes 13 to 10, which is usually seen on widescreen movies and many plasma television monitors.
The thing to remember about the dot pitch on the monitor is that the larger the display, the more area the same number of pixels will be spread out. A .28mm dot pitch image will appear sharper on a 13-inch monitor than it will on a 21-inch monitor. For general computer use, a .28mm dot pitch resolution on a 19-inch monitor will suffice. However, for fine graphics details, such as those used with computer aided graphics programs, a smaller dot pitch will render sharper images.
For playing action games on the computer or for viewing movies, the refresh rate comes into play. That is the nanoseconds it takes the pixel to go from black to white and back to white again. The faster the refresh rate, the fewer images will be lost during play.
Essentially, the smaller dot pitch a screen is equipped with the better the detail will be displayed. Depending on the planned monitor use, will determine the resolution of the screen needed for the best results. However, when buying a new monitor it may pay to get one with the best resolution you can find to improve the image quality. It can then render better results when viewing on-screen photographs, enhancing pictures, playing games or watching movies on your computer.

Look For Quality When Choosing New Computer Peripherals
From the first piece of equipment to carry the Hewlett-Packard name rolled out of their garage, the company established a goal of producing products that met strict quality control standards. If an item did not meet their expectations, it was revisited and reworked until it was made to last without problems to the end user. more

Choose Computer Monitor Based On Need And Performance
At one point during the life of your desktop computer there may be a need, or a desire, to replace the monitor with one that better meets the needs of your program’s graphics. Most computers come with a monitor, but for those who buy them separately will want to consider what type of work they will be doing before settling for a monitor bundled with the system. more

Will A Larger Monitor Screen Improve Your Graphics
Many computer users believe that a larger computer monitor will provide a better graphics image, and depending on various factors, that may be the case. However, the resolution of the monitor and the scanning method use will also play a role in how clear the graphic appears on the monitor. more
